The Treatment of Autism With no known cause, and no cure.... how do we treat this disorder?
The Statistics are staggering 1 in 150 children will be affected, and chances are if you are reading this, someone close to you is.
There is a lot of debate about the cause or causes of autism, but what isnt debatable is that we have many, many, people living with autism who need treatment.
Autism treatments are providing a better quality of life for people on the spectrum than ever before.
Treatment Options ~ Autism is treated in a variety of ways. There are nonstandard medical treatments used because autism is a spectrum disorder and every child is different. Remember that there is no cure for autism, but treatments are designed to help children function and cope with our world. (On a personal note I would like to say, that no prognosis no matter how bleak is ever the final word, there is always hope...that said, Please do research before signing any cheques, both for your child's and your own well being. There are those out there selling hope on a rope...not help when we need it.)

The ANDI mission is simple:To help parents understand, implement and maintain dietary intervention for their autistic children.
- The Official GFCF Diet Support Group The official site for the gluten free, casein free diet support group. Everything you need to know and more is here.
- The Feingold Diet (also known as the ADHD diet) is sometimes used by parents of children with autism as well.
- The Specific Carbohydrate Diet The premise of the Specific Carbohydrate Diet is that damaged intestinal walls and bacterial overgrowth are a part of a vicious cycle that wrecks havoc with the body's health and immunity. The diet restricts the type of carbohydrate that feed these pathogens, thereby restoring the body's inner ecology. The SCD diet is very similar to a Paleolithic diet except it allows the consumption of certain legumes, fermented dairy products and dry alcohol.
- The Body Ecology Diet The BED diet works on the principal of growing healthy microbes in the digestive tract to make the immune system stronger. Also read this article from the Autism Canada Foundation to learn more.
