- A 3 drawer countertop unit (something like the one pictured)
- 3 Labels - (I bought a hand held labeler, I love it)

Moving beyond the binder! Step 2
....for the everyday intake of paper, assessments, and forms you have to deal with but just don't have time this second use the 3 drawer system...
You need:

Step 1: Label each drawer
- File
- Sign or To Do
- Mail
Step 2: What to do with the drawers...
The "File" Drawer:
For everyday papers, assessments, and things that belong in your binder. Just stick them here until you have a moment to file them properly.
The "Sign" or "To Do" Drawer:
This is the "To Do" drawer. Those permission forms kids bring home from school, those forms a doctor needs faxed back...this is their temporary home.
The "Mail" Drawer:
Once you have signed those forms, place them here until you mail/fax them away.
I keep stamps, envelopes, address labels and a pen in this drawer as well.
More than one child ??
I have four children, so in each drawer are 4 different coloured file folders. Each child has a colour, and it matches their binder, and file box. When I need to put something in the drawer it is not a lot more effort to slip it into the correct kids file.
For example Zane's color is red...I have red file folders in each drawer, his medical binder and accordion file are red. (This is also useful around the house for bath towels, cups, toothbrushes, laundry baskets etc...each kid can have a color then you know who is responsible for what)
Continue to Step 3 - The Accordion File.
Back to Step 1 - The Binder.
